23 Aug Supporting the Sisterhood – Kiwi Women in Business: Nisha Ravji
As a full-time burlesque performer, there are a huge number of facets to my job. I simply can’t do everything myself, so I regularly outsource some tasks/aspects to experts.
Sometimes we collaborate to create art together, sometimes I commission custom designs, and sometimes I just have a project I need help with. Wherever possible, I like to support local small businesses, and especially my fellow self-employed women. I’ve decided to write a series of blogs introducing some of the amazing Kiwi women that I work with, who help me keep my brand running. Over the next 10 weeks, I will be profiling each of them individually. I look forward to sharing them with you, darlings. I know burlesque is built on a very DIY attitude, but remember, when you support your friends, it means they can afford to live their dream jobs, too!

I was introduced to Nisha a couple of years ago by our mutual friend, Fanciforia Foxglove. I was seeking a photographer for a project, Nisha was seeking a model, and our goals meshed perfectly.
I had planned a trip to Las Vegas, and wanted to shoot somewhere other than “the Strip”. We ended up shooting out at Red Rock Canyon, and the images Nisha produced are still some of my favourite photos to date.
Nisha is the sweetest person you could meet. And she doesn’t just shoot burlesque girls (although she has a fair few of us under her belt): she is also an incredible, globetrotting, internationally-published wedding photographer!
This amazing woman has created her dream, and lives her passion travelling all over the world, capturing love on her camera. She splits her time between her home in New Zealand and the United Kingdom, and travels everywhere in between documenting amazingly epic weddings.
Now, obviously, I don’t get married every year, so I can’t hire her to photograph countless weddings – but if I were the marrying type, she would be the one constant at all of my big days.
However, by sharing her beautiful images with you, my darlings, I hope that she can help make your dream wedding days a reality – or, at the very least, you can drool over her swoon-worthy albums of engagements, weddings, elopements… and the occasional fancy stripper.
On the next blog: meet a talented and in-demand costumier from Wellington.
